Linwood Charter's 8th Graders Make Double-Digit Gains on the LEAP

Beating the Odds!

In its third year of operation, the Linwood Public Charter School (LPCS) continues to make solid academic gains. The school’s 8th graders made double-digits gains in all subjects English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science on the Spring 2012 LEAP over their performance in 2011. The 147 Linwood 8th graders outperformed their peers in other middle schools and in the other RSD school in Shreveport and also outperformed the mean scores of their peers in RSD
Louisiana schools.

“We are very proud of our students for their hard work and efforts; they are increasingly taking their work seriously. We are transforming the school’s culture as well as its academic standing,” remarked Vickie Carroll, Linwood School Director.

Furthermore, results show significant added value the longer a student attends LPCS. LPCS 8th graders who have been at the school for three years show higher performance on the LEAP than peers in their first year at the school. Students with
three years at the school scored 16 percentage points (16%) higher on the ELA LEAP and 11 percentage points (11%) higher on the math LEAP.

The Linwood Public Charter School is a Louisiana RSD middle school (Grades 6 – 8) school chartered by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE). It is open to all residents of Caddo Parish. LPCS is managed by SABIS® Educational Systems, a Minnesota-based education management organization.

Also, Linwood is currently seeking highly qualified teachers that would like to make a difference in the lives of our students for the 2012-2013 school year. For more information on LPCS, SABIS or career opportunities, visit www.lpcs-sabis.net,
